Why back links are essential for good search engine rankings
Before putting any effort whatsoever into creating any web pages you should have considered how you intend to get people to visit and ‘consume’ your content. It doesn’t matter if you’re in business, indulging in a hobby or trying to inform others with your web pages you are going to want to attract the attention of other people. You should be focusing the majority of your efforts on getting your visitors from the search engines. If you are just starting out there is no better form of traffic than the type that comes from the search engines as it wont cost you a penny and it very targeted.
Search engines make money through presenting searchers with answers they are looking for. The delivery of relevant and accurate results to searchers is the key objective for search engines and is a major factor is maintaining and increasing user loyalty. More users returning, means more popularity and more sales. You and your web pages face a similar challenge.Persuade users to come back to your web pages over and over again.
So what should you do?. You have two options and you can use both. You can write useful and relevant content or you can use the advertising methods offered by search engines and other properties.
Search engines have a simple philosophy that nothing exists on the web without a keyword or a key phrase . Search engines perform searches based upon the keyword or key phrase entered by the user. The search engine scans its index of web pages and returns the web pages it has decided are most relevant to the keyword or key phrase. Search engines decide what web pages are returned by using two prime factors – authority and relevance.
Authority is determined in the main by search engines view of how many back links a web page has and relevance is related to the presence of keywords in the content of the web page(s). Search engines calculate the position of a web page in a returned list of results by measuring the authority and number of backlinks to each page.
Back links are the number one priority you should focus on in web page optimisation.
Back links not only determine your position in the SERPs (Search Engine Results Pages) but are a major source of visitor traffic. Users will follow links they find in content if the back link is labelled with relevant text. This text in the back link is known as ‘anchor text’ and this too is taken into consideration by the search engines. Each back link has a value associated with it which can vary depending upon its origin.
The authority on the page from which a back links originates can influence the potency of the link to your web page.Significantly authoritative web pages can pass some of their authority through the back links to your page.
