No business plan is complete without a solid business plan strategy in place to make it work.  Similar to gas for your car, a solid strategy gives your business plan the fuel it needs to succeed.

Your business plan strategy should include detailed plans in the following business areas:

Products and Services.  You should identify your best performing products or services and work your business plan strategy around increasing sales of those profitable markets.  Any new products or services you plan to develop should be included, along with timetables for completion and resources you’ll need to get them developed.

Marketing.  A strategy for marketing is a critical area to cover in your business plan strategy.  It should include an analysis of what your most profitable sources of marketing are, and how you plan to use advertising and marketing to expand your business in the coming year.  This section is where you will also identify any new branding materials that will be necessary to meet the business plan strategy goals.

Operational and Employee Development. No strategy is complete without identifying the resources you will need to achieve it, most particularly human resources.  If they are integral in achieving the company goals, remember to include any contractors or consultants you work for in this area..

Financial.  Include your financial plan for achieving your business plan strategy.  Many folks are under the impression that the financial portion of a business plan is used solely to get funds from banks or angel investors.  This is not the case, however.  If you plan to finance your business plan strategy through business growth, it is even more critical to carefully analyze your cash flow projections to ensure they are accurate and support your business plans.

Finally, your business plan strategy should address where you are today with respect to the above areas, as well as your alternate plans in the event circumstances change from those expected.

Over the course of the next few days or weeks, confirm the following and commit them to paper about your million dollar idea:

1.  What type of market is t here for your million dollar idea, and is there little enough competition that you will be able to compete?  Your idea doesn’t have to be so unique that no one else ever thought of it.  You just need to be a big enough fish in the pond to be able to compete.

2.  Can your million dollar idea meet the needs of that market on an ongoing basis?

3.  How will you deliver the million dollar idea to the market?  Said another way, what type of skills, team, and other resources are required to make it work?

Advantages Of Outsourcing

Outsourcing has become increasingly popular both for those buying outsourced labor and those providing the services.  It is an ideal use of a speaker’s or author’s resources to take advantage of outsourced help while promoting their speaking services or book.  And, the economic conditions have caused companies of all sizes to lay off full time staff or delay hiring new help.  This results in a larger pool of talent looking for work.  Outsourcing is the solution in many cases.

The advantages of outsourcing for the small business, speaker, author, or other entrepreneur purchasing the service are:

1.    The Commitment Does Not Have to Be Permanent.  If you aren’t happy with someone you have chosen to outsource work to, you can sever the relationship easily and find a better fit.

2.    Less Employment Overhead.  When you are making money and need help, you can get it.  When its slow and you don’t need help, you aren’t paying to keep someone busy.

3.    Can Outsource a Wide Array of Critical Tasks.  Whether it is an unexpected legal situation or minor office duties, you can find an outsourced service provider to meet your needs.  Small business owners outsource any number of tasks, but some of the more popular are virtual assistant tasks, website and Internet marketing, and even bookkeeping and accounting.

Outsourced service providers benefit from the relationship as well:

1.    Choose Your Own Employer.  You choose who you want to work with, and if you find a situation that isn’t working for you you can “fire” them as well.

2.      Easy Scheduling.   You are generally able to work on your own hours and terms, and most of the time you are able to work from home or in a “virtual” situation.

3.    Any Economic Situation.  The ability to earn on an outsource basis is not reliant on your ability to obtain traditional work that may not be available in your field.

Outsourcing is a situation that will persist, which is beneficial to both the author, speaker, entrepreneur or small business owner purchasing the service and the service provider.

The unemployment rates in Western countries are going through the roof with companies laying off staff as they struggle to cope with the current financial turmoil. Losing your job or being made redundant is rarely a happy event however when it becomes a reality there is only one way that we should be thinking; in a positive manner. This is far from easy however however becoming down and depressed will not help the situation.

I was made redundant from a financial services corporation when I was aged twenty-two. Due to my age I was not in reality too bothered about the whole situation. I have to admit that I was not particularly enjoying the role that I was in. I had always wanted to be my own boss and this would be the perfect time to turn my dream into a reality. Being made redundant turned out to be a blessing in disguise; I would probably have left the company within a few months in any case but this way they were actually paying me a redundancy package to leave!

I used this money to set up my own small business. I was going to run one-to-one stuttering help courses to help people to achieve fluency. I am a person who has managed to successfully overcome a stutter and I therefore felt that I had something to offer.

Working from home has many benefits as I have found to my own benefit. These include being your own boss and therefore not having to answer to other people. Choosing your own hours, choosing the amount of hours you work and the amount of holidays that you have. As an example instead of working nine to five and having to spend a further two hours travelling through the rush hour traffic, this is no longer an issue. This travel time is basically time wasted. I am a person who prefers to work late at night and at times early in the morning when the world is seemingly at its quitest.

Working from home now allows me to go to all of the important events in my children’s lives. For example attending their school sports days, the christmas play, parents evenings, the visits to the dentists. A full time employee normally has to miss a number of these events which is most frustrating and also unacceptable.

I now have partnerships in other business ventures including one offering affordable flyer printing and one offering pet insurance.

I would recommend other people to set up their own small business and to work from home, you need to be self-disciplined but the benefits are huge.

Repeat sales are always easier than first sales.  Therefore, owners of small businesses are constantly on the lookout for ways to create loyal customers.  Regardless of what business you are in, there are a lot of things you can do to keep your customers coming back.  Below are a few tips:

Maintain Expertise in Your Field

Keep up to date on the news and innovations that affect your industry.  It is important to always be perceived as the expert in your field.  With the Internet making it easy to do research, customers are becoming more and more informed.  You don’t want a situation where your customer knows more than you, the perceived expert.  That is why it is so important for you to commit to ongoing training and doing what you need to do to stay up to date with your industry.  Customers will stay loyal if you stay committed to lifelong learning.

Resolve Customer Problems Quickly

It is rare that you will hear about a customer problem up front, so you need to use your intuition in many cases.  It would be well worth it to ask your customers directly on occasion how the relationship is going, and what you might be able to do to improve the experience for your customer.

Most important, when you hear of a problem never give in to the SODDI defense (some other dude did it).  It’s your business, so everything that goes wrong is your fault – take the blame with grace.  Then solve the problem fast.  Your customers rarely encounter that mentality.  Instead of focusing on the problem, they will recall a positive resolution of the situation and that will keep them coming back for more.  In fact, it is often that case that those “problem” customers often end up referring new business your way because of their satisfaction with your service.

Help Your Customer Recall the Reasons They Picked You

This is no time to be humble; continually point out your advantages over your competitors, and praise your customer for being so perceptive and astute to choose you.  Everyone deserves a little praise, so why not also take the opportunity to remind your customer of your competitive advantages while praising them for making a good choice in you.

The ultimate goal when creating loyal customers is to give them service that is so good, everyone else pales in comparison.  Give them such great service automatically, and they will demand the same for years to come.  That’s a loyal customer.

Cold calling strikes fear in the hearts of small business owners, new and old alike.  But cold calling can be very useful to your business success even if you don’t use it for direct sales.  Here are a few ways you can use cold calling to your advantage:

Market Research

Most people equate cold calling with cold suppers from those bothersome telemarketers that interrupt supper every night, but in actuality, cold calling can be used in a very positive way to succeed in business by getting a lot of research done.

You can get the answer to any number of questions that might come up simply by calling local businesses that would know the answer.  You may not always get a positive response as people everywhere are busy, but more often than not you do.  And by making more calls or independent research based on those answers, you can fill in the blanks and learn more than you can imagine.

Strategic Alliances

Now more than ever a successful business person will focus on strategic partnerships to grow their business.  Traditionally, business people have relied on networking functions such as meet-up groups to form such alliances.

Maybe you have a particular person or business in mind that you would like to meet, but you haven’t had the opportunity to connect with them.  While stalking them out is an option, a more direct approach may be to give them a call on the phone.  It would be easy to feel them out with a few research questions, and if their responses are positive you could suggest a meeting to talk over how you could help each other out more.

The small business people who will survive today are those that are willing to try new techniques that will give them unique insight into their field and will help them form the alliances that will help them to profit.  An effective, low cost technique for achieving those goals is learning how to reach out through cold calling.

There are really essentially two kinds of people.  First, there are those who have been organized since the day they were born…then there are those who have not.  Do you feel you are in the second category?  It’s okay!  There is still hope for you to keep your small business organized.

The advantages are great.  An organized business person is able to get more work done in less amount of time.  The remember key meetings and events more often.  They don’t have anxious moments or feel as though they have lost control as often as someone who is disorganized.  Below are some functional tips to keep your business organized for those of us that are organizationally challenged:

Don’t Turn Your Back on a Mess at Night

Don’t head out the door in the evening without taking a short amount of time to straighten your desk.  Put office supplies such as stapler and pens in a central location so you are ready to go in the morning.  Look for anything that doesn’t belong and move it, such as used coffee cups or an overflowing trash can.

Most important, quickly go through the papers cluttering up the desk and stack them somewhat in the order they need to be tackled in the morning.  While you’re at it, start a to-do list for the next day, and label each item “A” “B” or “C” depending on how important it is to complete.

The ten minutes these simple tasks take each night will be rewarded by your ability to jump in and start the day running each morning.

Group Your Working Product in 3s

There are those people with organization stamped on their forehead who never waste time looking for what they need to complete a task.  The rest of us make up the bigger population.  One trick I have found helpful in organizing work papers so I can actually find them is to group them according to the rule of 3.

The idea is simple.  Never have more than three piles of paperwork going at any given time.  Stack number 1 contains your most pressing things – those you want to accomplish today.  The second stack should hold those that need to be handled within the week, and finally those within the month.  This can be a painful upfront process, but by taking the time to create these three stacks, you will save time in the long run from digging through piles when you are in a hurry and need some critical paper fast.

Take Action

The bottom line is that you are losing opportunities for your small business every day that you wait to find an organization system you can work with.  A larger part of your day can be spent on making your small business succeed when you are organized.  But remember, one size does not fit all and what works for one would drive someone else crazy.  So find a system you can call your own and stick with it.

Planning a website that will achieve the goals you have set for your business is probably the most difficult part of the entire Internet marketing process.  However, most business people ignore this critical step, or leave it to their web designer to take care of, which can often be even worse.

By strategically planning your new website or an update of your existing website, you will ensure you have a marketing piece that showcases your business to its best, allows you to be in control of ongoing content updates, and achieves the goals you have set for your business.  Here are a number of important steps to take in the website planning process:

1.  Create a list of anything your website visitors will want to know about the product or service you are offering.  Using the website for a school, for an example, you would probably discover that visitors would be looking for information on the staff at the school, classroom size, attendance numbers, and sports programs.  Brainstorm every possible topic someone might want to know related to the industry, product or service your website will be offering.

2.  Imagine for a short time that you are a potential website customer.  Visit and review some websites similar to the one you will offer as if you were a potential customer.  As a potential customer, what are the things you like and dislike about each website you visit?  Does the website inspire you to take further action?  Are you able to find what you are looking for quickly and easily? How many different pages do you have to click through to find what you want?  Note all this data down with the intent of making your new website as easy for your visitors to use as possible.

3.  Do keyword research to find out what visitors will be searching for. Google has a free keyword research tool that will work fine for this purpose.  By typing in a general phrase such as “exercise video”, other keywords will come up that are related.  These are the topics that people are searching for already.  By arming yourself with this information, you will be able to plan your website to answer their questions right away.

4.  When planning your new website, make sure to keep in room to grow.  Stay away from website formats that can’t be expanded easily to add products and new pages.  A good website is a constant work in process.

5.  The final thing to keep in mind is that you want to be able to control your new website, rather than be at the mercy of your web designer to make even the simplest of changes.   Old fashioned websites that only a web developer can change do not work in today’s dynamic Internet marketing environment that demands new content added regularly.  Your new website should be on a platform that lets you add content quickly and easily.

The investment by your business into a new website is a large part of your marketing budget.  Don’t waste it with an inferior website that doesn’t support your business objectives.

How To Increase Sales By Tracking Leads

Most sales training books and courses spend a lot of time on closing the sale, but very little time is spent on discussing the leads that, well, lead to those sales.  Every sales process begins with generating leads, so the more you know about sales leads, the more profitable your small business can be.

How many leads did you get last month? The quality leads that are the most probable to end up in a sale are usually easy for people to name, but a great deal of other probably leads are actually lost each month.

Why does it matter?  The more you know about your leads the more successful your business will be, because generating leads is the first step to making sales.  And, if you can use your newly found information to either reduce the cost of your marketing or the time that you spend, wouldn’t that be worth it?

First, you need to be able to track specific information about how you get leads.  Below are some questions to ask to get started:

1. What is the main venue through which you get your leads? A “pre-lead” is really just a prospect, for example a website visitor or someone you shake hands with at a meet-up group.  Your job is to identify those venues you use to collect your prospects, such as trade shows, meet-up groups, advertising, or your website.

2. Next, what are the more particular sources your leads come from? Pay per click advertising, a specific trade show, someone else’s website, or organic online searches are all examples of a specific source for your leads.

3. How would you rank the quality value of each of those leads from your source and specific source?  The best way I have found to pinpoint this is to assign a percent value to each lead.  So a lead that is just kicking the tires gets a lower percentage value assignment than one that you send a proposal to or even ultimately sell.

Understanding where you are getting your leads and the quality of those leads will help you to spend your marketing time and money in the right places to increase your profits.

My most challenging part of copywriting to sell something online has always been the task of writing benefit statements. But, other than a good headline, to sell visitors to your service, product and ideas you need great benefit statements.

Coming up with headlines, stories, price offers and all the fancy Buy Now! buttons you’d need to fill a sales page was easy for me in comparison. But creating a benefits list drove me crazy; that is until I learned how to come up with one or more benefits every minute.

Any basic sales course will tell you that features don’t sell a product or service, benefits do. Knowing that, I started to try to get to the bottom of what benefits actually are. They’re action items, right? As an example, you “build” muscles or “create” more time. If that is true, how bout starting each benefit statement with an action verb? This is the process to take:

1.  Get a long list of alphabetized action verbs.

2.  Put the list on your desk or computer screen where you can see the entire list
.
3.  Beginning with the letter A, read each verb aloud and come up with a descriptive sentence about your product or service that includes the verb.

As an example, “Accelerate” is the first verb on my list.

So, I might say to myself that my product helps people to “Accelerate your learning speed by     getting true hands-on training with every command”.

4.  Write as many benefits as you can and don’t stop! You can cut out those that don’t have as much impact later. Don’t worry about duplicates right now either. Just keep an open mind and write down any benefit statements that come to mind about your product or service.

5.  Now is the time that you will prioritize your list from most important to least.

This process has worked for me not only to create great benefits lists, but also for writing articles for my website like “35 Reasons Why a Blog is Better than a Traditional Web Site for Your Business,” or “50 Ways to Kill a Perfectly Good Seminar”.

Use my list of verbs or create your own and start creating your killer benefit statements in just 20 minutes. In most cases, a good list of 20 benefits is all you will need for your sales page.

The Internet has become indispensible and practically no busine

The Internet has become indispensable and practically no business, author or speaker can succeed without using the Internet as part of their marketing strategy.  However, while most folks use the Internet for their personal needs, many have little idea how they can become more profitable using it for their products or services.

If you are like most people, you have been overwhelmed with Internet marketing strategies, and have no idea where to start.

Regardless of what business you are in, the steps to Internet marketing success are very similar, and it might surprise you to learn they haven’t changed much in over a decade!  The problem is that most educational resources on Internet marketing tell you a piece of the process without identifying where on the timeline it falls or how it fits into the rest of the process.

Try to avoid getting hung up on any particular strategy until you fully understand your P.T.A., which is the foundation for success on the Internet:

P:  Plug-In

Examine where you currently fit in the Internet marketing process and “plug in” at that point.  Is this your first experience with Internet marketing?  Or maybe you have some experience, but haven’t pulled it all together yet?  Pinpoint where you fit into the process, then plug in to the resources and tools that you need for your specific situation.

T: Team-Up

The next and most important step for any small business owner, author or speaker is to team up with those that can help implement the process.  The success of your business relies on you being out doing your thing, not sitting at a computer trying to learn everything there is to know about Internet marketing (unless you are, actually an Internet marketer by trade).  And, contrary to popular belief, just having a website designed by someone you find on Craig’s List or overseas won’t get you the success you want from your Internet marketing.

Your aim is to find outsourced help that takes time to learn about your situation and needs, as well as demonstrates a high level of knowledge of all areas of Internet marketing.  You need to start now to form a devoted team that will be at your side for years to come to help you with technical challenges and smart, calculated Internet marketing planning for your business or service.

A:  Accelerate

A website alone, without analyzing where you fit into the process will result in not fully realizing the last step of accelerating your success.  Knowing a little of this or a little of that is useless unless you know the process and where you are in it, and have a team of resources available to help you implement it.  Once you have done that, your business success from the Internet will start to fly.

Marty Dickinson is an entrepreneur and the founder of HereNextYear, Inc., a full service Internet marketing company in business for 15 years.  He specializes in Internet marketing solutions for the small business owner, speakers and authors.  Visit to see what HereNextYear has to offer and to learn more about their innovative new website packages fully integrated for ease with social networking and other Internet marketing strategies.

Just because you don’t have a good education or the job experience does not mean that you have to be stuck doing something that you do not want to do. If you have enough determination you can start your business. This will give you the right amount of flexibility. It will also allow you to do exactly what you want to do with your life.

The simplest way for you to get started is to try and make money online. A lot of people tell you do this and there is a reason for it. There aren’t that many start-up costs and all you need is something good to sell. You might not get that many orders initially but the possibilities go on forever.

There are many things you could sell. Maybe you have a knack for making scarves or other crafts. If you advertise well enough your business could take off rather quickly. It can always start as a part time business and then eventually you can make it bigger.

If you want to get started with a regular business, you can turn it into a home income opportunity. This is because most people would not want to risktheir full time job for something they aren’t even sure will take off.

This way you can start to make money at home and save up for when you want to get a bigger place. You can also start to build up a client list and confidence in your business. This will be good for you, since it will give you a reason to quit your job if your business becomes extremely successful.

The next best option for those that do not want to sell things online is to make money blogging. If you like to write this will be the best option for you. Most of the time the best way to make money through blogging is through advertising. If your site gets a lot of hits, more people will want to advertise on your site. This will also increase the payout you get. If this is what you want to do you should try and do some homework. Figure out what market you want to attract and things like that. This will give you an edge over other people.

Starting a business can be rather unpredictable at times. If you stay committed to it you can get a lot of things done and also enjoy the fruits of your labor. Businesses are risky but if you do it the right way you can make large profits.

Should we turn online business away as compared to getting into business deals, which are bad? The truth to this is that some business is frequently better in comparison to no business. Recently I read about Whitehat Copycat and how it creates businesses overnight, can a business like this be good, or is it bad?

What’s bad business?

Bad business is largely what costs online business owners dearly. This could probably mean that these bad transactions could finish up costing more than it is worth in the end. If you have paid out money for materials, time, labor and money only to get something not up to your company standard, then you have lost out on that particular job. Taking these, types of deals suffer more money than you received for the finished product or service.

Follow your gut instinct

More times to none, entrepreneurs take on more work than they feel at ease with in the beginning. Some will have a bad feeling about the exchange or perhaps even suspect they won’t receive payment or the customer has such unrealistic expectancies that the entrepreneurs knows will not be fulfilled.

Confirm there is communication between both parties involved

You must try hard to make sure that whatever the transaction, the deal is precise and profitable with the terms made clear as well as accepted by both parties concerned. This will make sure that both parties will be content. One can’t avoid bad business deals from never going down but a little common-sense can aid greatly with these ventures.

Do not believe that bad business is far better than no business

Today our country is experiencing very tough times. Some will even say though you lost money on a specific job that your name is still out there being networked and this makes the loss worthwhile, this isn’t necessarily true in my book. Usually, the people that state this have terribly deep pockets and can afford the losses except for a floundering SOHO owner who has just started their business, jobs like this may lead the company to failure.

What causes bad business?

Bad small businesses come out of a breakdown in the link between you and your small business. Thru the misunderstanding of an expectation, you come to understand that often the dear lawsuits result from jobs or transactions such as this; it isn’t worth it in the end to ceaselessly deal with bad business. You must adjust and learn from these deals, which have turned bad. It is clear that no business is superior to bad business. Bad business turns dear over time as well as time intensive and the bad publicity gained from this is horribly bad for business.

Thru determination on the part of your growing businesses, you should not leave details up for chance. You must ensure all parties involved with business deals are in full agreement unless you want these dealings to minimize your clients as well as your earnings.

What Type of Person Runs a Home Business Anyway?

Well first of all, ambitious ones. People who don’t want to settle for average mostly. Now before we progress further into this post, let’s talk about some fundamentals here. I’ve worked with Physicians, Students, College Faculty, Soccer Coaches, Sales Representatives, Engineers, Mental Health Administrators, UPS Drivers, Nurses, CPA’s, Attorneys, Police Officers, Firemen, Teachers, IT Geeks, Realtors, Loan Officers, Appraisers, Pharaceutical Reps… should I go on here? Essentially every type of profession under the sun.

See tons of people look at starting a small business from home on the side of their full-time career. For many reasons including more money, more free time, more control of their future, more long-term security, more freedom, more fullfillment, tax advantages, and sometimes just to be a part of something and meet new friends. Just because an Attorney or Physician makes $100K doesn’t mean they are content with their lifestyle. In fact, usually the more successful the person is in their primary line of work, the more likely they are to have success in a small business. On the other hand, students and blue-collar workers have also had success in the business world so you really can’t pre-judge people.

What type of personalities start a mlm business? I have seen it all! Choleric: This is the commander-type. Cholerics are dominant, strong, decisive, stubborn and even arrogant. Melancholy: This is the mental-type. Their typical action involves thinking, assessing, making lists, evaluating the positives and negatives, and general analysis of facts. Sanguine: This is the social-type. They enjoy fun, socializing, chatting, telling stories – and are fond of promising the world, because that’s the friendly thing to do. Phlegmatic: This is the flat-type. They are easy going, laid back, nonchalant, unexcitable and relaxed. Desiring a peaceful world above all else. No matter what your type, you also can have success working for yourself in a network marketing company.

Let’s talk lastly about some of the success traits that network marketing entrepreneurs often have. They are hard workers. They get up early, stay up late, and are not afraid to take action. They realize that learning is major to their success, they don’t necessarily like school, or class, but if someone is willing to share tips or techniques with them that have already led to their success, they are willing to listen and take notes. They also are big dreamers. They are not happy where they are. Grateful yes. Content no. Grateful for what they have, but always dreaming and thinking about the possibilities for down the road. They have discussions with their spouse that start with the words…”what if”, or “oneday soon”. Finally, they may not “like” talking to people, but they are quick to get over that one.

Owning an internet business is all about networking, growing a team and assisting others. They quickly learn that giving back and being charitable with their time gives them a lot of happiness. A lot more than answering to their boss does.

Leaving your full time job to start your own business can be the biggest risk you ever take, but can be an exciting and rewarding enterprise.  Taking time to consider working from home ideas will take some of the anxiety out of the decision.

There are many ways to keep your inspiration and motivation while attempting to escape the 9 to 5 doldrums. How much to invest, where to get the investment from, whether it would be a loan or refinancing your home and the planning entailed all play apart when deciding what type of business to get into.

Ideas are available from both obvious and less-obvious sources once the decision to work from home is made.

A valuable step is thinking what exactly your goals are.  Do you want to make as much money as possible? Is retiring at 55, what you want?  Work less than 20 hours a week?Is selling to a competitor in few years your goal? Your working from home ideas ought to reflect the answers to these questions.

Create a vision for yourself and your home-based business.  Picture yourself in five years’ time. What are the most likely work from home ideas to realize those dreams?  Are there work from home business opportunities that allow you to express your passions and make money at the same time?  Without a passion, you may as well go back to full-time work that offers relative security, low risk and few surprises.

It takes skill along with passion to become successful with a home based business. Filling a market niche with their passion is how most home business ideas came to fruition.Do your family and friends know of a business that you, using your talents, would be great at?Do people come to you for specific skills?  Can a value be placed on those?

Write down all your thoughts and beliefs when developing you specific work from home ideas. These will guide you, ensuring that you have picked the proper one.Vision and passion will help facilitate the attaining of said goals.

While devising a business plan that will be revisited, utilize this information. The initial vision, although sometimes on a bumpy path and full of detours, often remains and is achieved. You will be carried by your goals, values and beliefs during these times.

More and more people are being made redundant and unemployment rates are increasing on a daily basis. Losing your job or being made redundant is rarely a happy event however when it becomes a reality there is only one way that we should be thinking; in a positive manner. I know that this is easier said than done however feeling sorry for ourselves will not help the situation.

I was made redundant from a financial services corporation when I was aged twenty-two. Due to my age I was not in reality too bothered about the whole situation. I decided to think positively about the situation; in reality I did not even like the job that I was in, I found it rather boring. It has always been my goal to run my own business and this was a great opportunity for me to do this. Being made redundant turned out to be a blessing in disguise; I would probably have left the company within a few months in any case but this way they were actually paying me a redundancy package to leave!

I decided to use this windfall to start my own home based business. I was going to run one-to-one stuttering therapy courses to help people to achieve fluency.

The time spent travelling to work, normally in a rush hour period, is basically time that could be better spent. I personally like to work late at night, where possible, as this is when I am able to concentrate to my maximum.

Working from home now allows me to go to all of the important events in my children's lives. For example attending their school sports days, the christmas play, parents evenings, the visits to the dentists. A full time employee normally has to miss a number of these events which is most frustrating and also unacceptable.

I now have partnerships in other business ventures including one offering a DVD authoring service and one offering catering supplies UK.

Setting up my own home based business has been the best thing that I have ever done and I would recommend other people to do the same.
