Ways to Make the Move from the Office to Working From Home a Productive One
With everyone being connected to the wonderful world wide web and the advances in technology coming such a long way, many companies are now saving money on office space by having their employees work from home rather than in their office space. Many people are excited about the concept but once they start out they find they are not as productive and easily distracted by things at home . This will give tips on how to be productive at home and get more work done in less time like setting up a real office in your home including an executive desk or executive desks, giving yourself work hours, shutting off your home phone and other suggestions .
The first thing to do when preparing for your transition to working from home is to set up an real office space. If you presently have a guest room that hardly gets used, you may want to convert it to your new office. Another suggestion would be to redo part of your basement or even garage to an office space. This doesn’t have to be as large of a project as you may think and would pay off later on when it is time to resell your house . If this is not a possibility , then find a room that is peaceful and has extra space to set up a real office .
Now that you have the space for your office , it is a smart idea to make it as much as a professional space as possible . Instead of using a foldable tray table invest in purchasing a real desk , one that would be similar to the one you had at your old office space . If you create a professional space to go to every day within your home , it will help you mentally to transition into that mode since you no longer have the drive there to do that. Also, either install a 2nd phone line to be used for faxes, etc or just use your cell phone as your business phone. These expenses probably would be covered by your company .
You must be disciplined with your work schedule from your house . Once many employees work from home, it is easy to get distracted by the other things at home, such as the TV, the kids, chores to be done at home , etc. You should continue to wake up at the same time you always did for your job and because you do not have to commute can probably start your work day earlier too . Also, it is imperative to shower and change just the way you would when you went to your job . Obviously it is not necessary to dress in a suit to work from home, but just the process of showering and getting dressed before you start working also helps to set the tone to be more productive .
Once all of these things are done and you stick to your schedule you will find yourself getting more work done in less time which will give you more time to play .
